Acura introduces an all-new entry-level sedan for 2013: the ILX. The following four-door four door is smaller sized than the brand’s TSX and provides a far more affordable entry level for the Acura collection.

Acura takes a swipe on the Audi A3, Buick Verano, and Lexus Is by using the luxury-styled ILX based which shares a platform featuring its Honda counterpart, the Civic. The ILX offers upgraded performance in the Civic, with an improved suspension far better handling, and of course a more elegant interior and more technology.

The ILX offers two engine choices, each connected to a different transmission. The first is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine capable of 150 horsepower that's paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and an auto/manual feature. ILX models equipped with the six-speed stick shift (6MT) get a more powerful 201-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine to get a high-performance driving experience. 

When it comes to fuel economy, the ILX delivers with 24 mpg from the city and 35 mpg while travelling. Drivers who opt for the ILX using the 6MT will sacrifice a few mpg points for performance, with 22 mpg inside the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

Cloth-trimmed sport seats, with manually adjustable driver’s seat, come standard from the ILX, as do dual-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control, and keyless entry with pushbutton start. The ILX head unit features 160-watt sound with an in-dash CD-player with MP3 and WMA playback, USB/iPod integration, and Bluetooth streaming audio. Technology standards include a five-inch color information display and Bluetooth hands-free calling.

Acura has divided the ILX’s various options into packages for easier configuration. The premium package, an option for the ILX and standard on ILX models with the 6MT, upgrades seating to perforated-leather trim with heated front seats and brings an eight-way adjustable powered driver’s seat with an eight-way adjust. It also adds a multi-view rear camera, an alternative 360-watt sound system, and satellite radio. The so-called technology package adds an eight-inch LED backlit display, GPS linked climate control, and a voice-recognition enabled navigation system that will access Zagat Survey ratings for restaurants, and real-time traffic and weather reports. 

The ILX’s exterior styling combines classic design having a sportier feel, employing sleek lines that taper toward a corner of the vehicle to create an aggressive, aerodynamic stance. The standard auto-on/off halogen headlights are upgraded to xenon high-intensity discharge headlights inside the premium package, which also includes fog lights and seventeen-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. The ability moonroof includes a tilt feature and is also included in all ILX models.

Safety features in the ILX include front, front side, and side curtain airbags, as well as a chassis construction to evenly distribute frontal crash energy throughout the body structure. A vehicle stability assist system automatically adjusts steering to compensate for under- or oversteer with brake or engine speed modifications. The braking system includes four-wheel antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist.
